Work Starts on the Armed Forces Sculpture Trail

Major Excavation to a Subsiding Path and Supporting Wall

Major Groundworks are Underway in the Ferniehurst Dell

Over the last two years a monumental effort has been made to raise funds by the Friends of the Dell, which is now seeing results. Major works are in progress right now to make a notoriously dangerous path safe for the public to use. All of which, should be completed by this summer.

The path is being improved in order to host the new Armed Forces Sculpture Trail, a collection of artworks by local sculptors.  The artwork has been inspired from personal accounts of serving soldiers and veterans living in the local community, aiming to highlight the issues that face the Armed Forces, and the sacrifices they make on our behalf, in an innovative way. Once completed, Baildon should have a new facility for everyone to enjoy.

Throughout the project, both the public and local school children have been involved, for instance recording the interviews and writing poems to be included in the trail. If you would like to be involved, there is still the opportunity to register for one of the community workshops. Or perhaps, you could attend the open day to see the new exhibits this summer, look out for dates in the press and on our website.

Unfortunately, the footpath will be undergoing frequent closures over the next few months, for health and safety reasons. I’m sure you will understand this is necessary to prevent accidents, and should be well worth the wait.
