The Ferniehurst Dell is home to the Yorkshire Armed Forces Sculpture Trail.
About the Trail
In 2014, The Dell was transformed by local artists, with more than a dozen sculptures along its new pathways.
The aim of this project was to encourage the local community, and a wide variety of visitors, to continue to recognise the sacrifice service personnel make, and the issues they face whilst serving our country, and when they return to civilian life.
Then Chairman of the Ferniehurst Dell Improvement Partnership, Ian Lyons, who conceived the idea for the trail, said:
“This was a wonderful opportunity for artists to work with service veterans and young people on a unique project that will benefit the whole community, and celebrate everything we love about our Armed Forces. ”
The trail’s opening coincided with the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of The Great War, and was officially launched on Armed Forces Day 2014.
